Our music hero of the month is Lúpína.
A Scandinavian alt-pop artist with that Nordic charm — natural, calm, and slightly mysterious.
She doesn't just sing — she explores emotions and turns them into sound. Her voice is mesmerizing. And she knows exactly which visual codes to use to express herself and her art. That caught our attention right away, and we decided we had to get to know her better.

''I usually start with a concept. It's often a feeling I don't understand, and I need to bring it out from inside me into a song to make sense of it. What happens next really depends on the song, but in many cases I start writing it on the piano, playing simple chords and a melody, shaping the melody and lyrics at the same time. My favorite part of the process is the production. That's where I experiment with different sounds, textures, and levels of intensity to figure out how best to translate the feeling of the song and find the perfect sound for me. I often play around with vocal samples and layers, drawing inspiration from Icelandic choir music, and then blend that with electronic elements''.
[I look at music
as a way to process thoughts]
I came up with the staging idea for the video myself and filmed and edited it with my long-time collaborator and producer/songwriter Grímur H. Einarsson. The outfit is styled by Ragnheiður Björk Aradóttir, and the dress is from Noir Kei Ninomiya (Comme des Garçons).
Question about this video: who came up with the staging idea, and who is the director?
Many things inspire me. Humans, thoughts, connections and social dynamics are really interesting to me. I find it fascinating how many feelings we can feel from different interactions with different people. We are all experiencing the same things, yet we all feel like we are the only one feeling this specific way. Colors, shapes, smells, and textures also inspire me.
What inspires you?
When I was three years old, I went to a brass band concert with my family and noticed there were no violins. I thought I wanted to fix that, so I asked my parents if I could play the violin. I kept bothering them with that question for years, until I was finally allowed to play it at the age of six. Music has been around me ever since, and when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do after high school, I knew I needed to give myself time to pursue a career in music — at least to try it and see what would come of it.
Have you always wanted to make music?
Totally! I wrote all of my first album in Lillehammer, Norway, and all of my second album in Oslo, Norway. My upcoming EP ‘Light in the Dark’ (out on the 22nd of May) was also written in Oslo, but now I have moved to Iceland and I already feel a shift in what I am writing now vs. what I wrote in Norway. Many things definitely influence how I write music, but the atmosphere and the mentality of the people around me have a big influence on me.
Do you think the place where you live influences your music?
EP "Light in the Dark" will be released on May 22nd. Listen to Lúpína on all streaming platforms and follow her on Instagram at @lupina.is, where she shares Reels from her songwriting process. It's incredibly intimate and atmospheric.
[I dream many confusing dreams at night, but in my daydreams I think of making music that helps people, brings them together, and touches them in ways the music I love has touched me]
